Automated production lines are the process where inputs arrive and outputs leave with little to no human interaction. Note for lean management there should be a degree of human touch*. It contains a series of work stations controlled to an electrical control systems that control the timing and sequencing of equipment. If you need more detail say that the labor has to monitor and adjust the equipment rather than controlling the systems directly.

On the other hand, computer aided manufacturing is computer controlled manufacturing. The machines receive instructions to be accurate and reduce errors. There is no a reduced need to manually reset the machines, and time is saved and fewer errors are made.

The main difference is that in APL there is a touch of human quality, whereas CAM has none. You can also use these explanations as inherent differences. Another difference is that APL is a principle of lean management, whereas CAM is not.
