I would have subtracted the first curve by the second curve multiplied by 4 to yield:



This would get an expression for y in terms of x, then I would substitute it back into either expression to get the intersections.

Ahmad:
A systematic way would be to divide the first one by 4, then set the equations equal to each other (since they're both equal to 0), which will result in a linear equation. Substitute y in terms of x from this linear equation into the second equation and solve for x. :)
