hii!
so i'm in year 11 and for a while i've been thinking about moving down to standard english as i find advanced pretty hard and have done not so good in my assessment task ( 16/30 and ranked last ). My teacher suggested staying in advanced and move down if i don't do well for the upcoming assessment but i already find myself dreading every english class ( doesn't help i didn't really want to do advanced english, in subject selection last year the teacher recommended it for some reason so i just agreed : / )
I'm still unsure on what to do ; - ; any advice ?? thanks !
Hey, SunnyLatte!
Can confirm with stella_atarnotes that there are overlaps between Advanced and Standard. Two modules are common between these courses in Year 12; you'll just study different texts. That way, if you don't like Advanced in Texts and Human Experiences after Term 1, you can drop to Standard and you won't miss anything too crazy because the module is the same.
If you're finding yourself disliking English and worried about your performance, I would recommend sticking it out until the next assessment task and seeing how things go. You might surprise yourself if you work at it! However, if you really don't think Advanced is right for you, I would definitely encourage you to consider the benefits you might have in Standard and to ask your teachers for advice. It really is up to you in the end and whatever you think will make your HSC life more enjoyable and manageable should be prioritised! Hope that helps
