I'm doing psych 3/4 this year so if I do english early it won't be my first 3/4 subject.
Congrats on your 50 in lit btw. do you think it helped doing it in year 11 when you didn't have four other 3/4s to pay attention to?
thanks!

Thanks! And yep, it definitely helped, although the downside is that I didn't work hard enough on my 1/2s so I'm struggling a lot more this year. Don't make my mistake ;)
I forgot to add this before, but one thing to be careful of if you do end up doing English 3/4 early: VCAA requires all students to successfully complete at least THREE units of English in order to pass VCE. So if you do English 3/4 next year as your ONLY English, you must do at least an additional unit of Literature or English Language in year 11, or else you might not be able to get an ATAR!
Good luck!! :)

I was going to add, my guess is the school is saying no because you need three units - were you planning to do one of the 1/2 English subjects at the same time?

I think the advantage of an extra year of English education probably outweighs the advantage of being able to focus on it. Being able to focus on it means you can reach your potential, but there’s a decent chance your potential is lower in Year 11 than it would be in Year 12 after an additional year of writing and feedback. It’s not a common subject to accelerate, I think probably for this reason. I’d accelerate something else and take 3-4 subjects in Year 12... and if you do well in the two you’ve accelerated, well - you effectively only need to focus on English and one other subject in Year 12 to round out your top four.

I want to do English 3/4 next year in year 11. My teacher said no it's not allowed but I can’t find anything on the vcaa website that says it’s not allowed. I want to do english early as it has to be in your top 4 and it’ll be hard to get a good score in year 12 when I’ve also got other 3/4s. So is it allowed or not??
thanks in advance!!

I've been told if a school says "no its not allowed" but the VCAA says you can do it you should speak to the VCAA because your school cannot say you cannot do it.

Not necessarily. Some schools have rules about how they do things, which cannot be ignored or overturned by going to VCAA. However, VCAA can give you insight into what other schools may offer.
