Chem Question!

(1/1)

Odette:
Hey everyone a friend of mine has a question regarding chem...
Here it is:
What volume of 0.100M sulfuric acid would be required to neutralise a solution containing 0.500g of sodium hydroxide and 0.800g of potassium hydroxide?

Thanks

cara.mel:
Treat each reaction seperately and then add the H2SO4 you need together

H2SO4 + 2NaOH -> Na2SO4 + 2H2O
n(NaOH) = m/Mr = .5/40 = 0.0125mol
n(H2SO4) = 1/2 n(NaOH) = 0.00625mol

H2SO4 + 2KOH -> K2SO4 + 2H2O
n(KOH) = m/Mr = .8/56 = 0.0142mol
n(H2SO4) = 1/2 n(KOH) = 0.00714mol

Total n(H2SO4) needed = 0.00625+0.00714= 0.0134mol
From n=cv, v=n/c = 0.0134/.1 = 0.134L

Odette:
Thanks Mel  =)

Edit: Sorry I forgot your name ... sorry about the karma thing too lol
