How important is chapter 8?

(1/2) > >>

SS1314:
Hi,

I am currently doing Spesh 1/2 and was wondering how important are chapters 3 and 8 (from Cambridge book) for Spesh 3/4 as my school is skipping those chapters?

Was just wondering whether I should take the initiative and self-learn these topics as I have quite some free time.

Thank you :)

I don't have the units 1/2 textbook. What is covered in those chapters?

Chapter 8 - Number + Proof:

8A - Direct proof
8B - Proof by contrapositive
8C - Proof by Contradiction
8D - Equivalent statements
8E - Disproving statements
8F - Mathematical induction

Also, chapter 3 covers variation

cool

Those were the first two topics my spec 1/2 teacher did when I was in high school. So it was kind of just getting them out of the way. They really don't hold much weight to what you will be doing in 3/4 spec so I wouldn't be worried if your teacher skips them. However, they are quite good topics to develop mathematical thinking and get an introduction into proofs so could be useful to complete if you were interested in that.
