As a current student who has done 1/2 and doing 3/4 chem via VSV at the moment, I think I can give you a decent answer.
Doing a subject via distance needs alot of self motivation and dedication, so you need to be prepared for the workload you will get yourself into.

My personal experience with distance is okay for chem. Unit 1/2 were done a lot better than units 3/4, and the teachers are generally very helpful. However, doing unit 3/4 has been a bit of a different experience. The course has quite a few errors, and can get confusing at times, so I am currently learning better by following the textbook more than the course. So as I said before, you will need alot of self motivation. I think the course is okay, and it's pretty good for it being online, it's really up to you if you think you can mange it.

The workload is higher than an average chem student if you follow the course AND do extra as well as attend the online lessons.

If you have your heart set on chemistry and really want to do it, I do think distance is a great option. I would suggest looking at the courses website in the subjects page if you want to know more. Good luck, it is definitely doable!

Hello!

While I am not as qualified as Geoo, I do take a subject through VSV and take VCE 1/2 chem at school so hopefully I can give a good opinion.

Doing a subject through VSV is hard, especially when you undertake a near full subject load at a regular school. You need to learn how to use your time well and be prepared to put about 6-10 hours of work in per week (from experience). However, I think it is very good as long as you consult other resources (textbook, the internet, ATARNotes, study design) to ensure that what you are learning is correct. However, it is certainly possible and I think VSV is great for these situation.

In terms of Chemistry, I would definitely join AS SOON as you have decided because I have been told that most 1/2 knowledge is quite applicable to 3/4. You may have to catch up using the textbook, YouTube or VSV resources but if you are dedicated enough it is certainly doable.

I hope this helps :)
