Hi I was wondering, for a response to the essay question Examine the influence of contexts of Shakespeare and Atwood in their exploration of disparate values in their texts.

Would I have to be confined to talking about the disparate values or can I talk about their similar values too?

Hi Ratchypoo,

For your essay question: Examine the influence of contexts of Shakespeare and Atwood in their exploration of disparate values in their texts, I believe that it would be extremely beneficial if you not only discussed the "disparate values" but also the commonalities/similarities between the texts.

Furthermore, for your essay to be "discerning" and "effective" in its criteria, it would be best if you constructed a nuanced thesis to complement your argument/analysis. A nuanced thesis refers to the discussion of both perspectives rather than one because you would not be able to discuss the "disparate values" of the texts unless you examine the commonalities/similarities as well.

Also, if you would like some help writing a nuanced thesis, or would like me to proofread/edit your essay/assignment, I would be more than happy to :)

Hey, Ratchypoo!

I'll just second what Darcy's raised. You could argue that in exploring those disparate values as part of the comparative study, you not only are able to realise disparate values, generated as a result of contextual differences, but also how the sharing of those values across both texts insists that certain ideas have ongoing relevance and should remain "in conversation" over time. I think this brings more nuance to the question. As long as you continue to address this judgement throughout the rest of the essay, I'd see no problem at all! Hope that helps  :)
