biol is NOT rote - learning. unit 4 is some what rote learning. However the meiosis, mitosis, inheritance charts this that these can't be rote learned you need to actually understand them.  unit 3 is far from rote learning. Go try learn photosynthesis through just reading and we'll see how far you get. it took me a whole day of just trying to get my head around it before i actually fully understood it. there's many concepts like this and IT IS NOT ROTE - LEARNING. contrary to what others have been saying. even if you can read and memorise vcaa will throw q's at you that require understanding and application, not just knowledge off a book.
