I don't think this prompt will ever be in the exam because a prominent part of it focusses on identity, rather than belonging (unless we assumed 'other considerations' to be belonging)

John Book- He knew what is morally right and wrong and although, could've joined the 'corrupt police force' he remained true to himself, and instead of adjusting he withdraws himself from the only group he belonged because in his heat of hearts he is blatantly aware that as a police officier he must protect and serve. In the end, by being 'true' to himself, he prevails and re-joins the police force, with a stronger sense of self. Hence, John sacrificed belonging for doing whats right, and as a result, things turned out well.

Although we can say John conformed to the Amish lifestyle he did not do so completely. His attire and sacrificing his gun can be seen as a form of conformation, but he still remains to do things by his book (get it cos' his John Book) and resolves conflict with violence. Therefore, John is true to himself, he leaves the Amish with a stronger identity (cos' he now realises he is so different) and possibly, will open up and start forming relationships.

Hmm...true but in the end he resolves conflict by using words and not violence: "stop it" and finally realises the power of a group. I'm confused now... :s
When I get sad, I stop being sad, and be AWESOME instead. True story.

At the end, he doesn't rejoin the police force?

oh my lord that was on the esl exam

well the whole topic for the ESL exam as opposed to mainstream English is roughly
'be true to yourself in a world of constant changes is the greatest achievement.'

I write basically about that book has gained his true sense of identity by knowing the fact he cannot assimilate into Amish, and eventually returning to his world would provide him a purpose in achieving to be come a more worldly and connected man.

My expository styled essay hopefully would not become as sad as my language analysis. =[ As a result my brain is running faster than my hand, to which i blame upon my nerve and lack of practice in writing.

phew. eventually.
