confused about accommodation..

when are we generally supposed to apply for accommodation? as in before or after we get our uni offers? (sorry this is probably a really dumb question)
I have an early entry offer for ANU, and I have to pay the accommodation deposit by tomorrow I think...If I don't, what happens? When can I next apply for accomodation?

Varies from uni to uni but usually you have to apply before you receive offers and then you'll get a conditional accommodation offer. I imagine ANU would have a few different application windows for accommodation, but with most unis accommodation is offered on a "first in, first served" basis so better to apply early or you risk missing out on a spot.

I think it's best to get in contact with the uni's accommodation services and ask them your question directly - they'll be able to give a concrete answer. You should be able to find their phone number somewhere on ANUs website.
