Derived Examination Scores
(1/1)
vce2020:
Hey there,
Just looking for some advice regarding derived examination scores. For the last few months I've been suffering from pretty bad sleeping problems, basically what I would consider insomnia; i.e. I can lie in bed for hours almost every night and not fall asleep. I'm doing year 12 exams at the moment and it's just been getting worse over time. I don't have the option to just wake up later either because a lot of my exams have been in the morning. Last night I was only able to sleep around 2 and a half hours despite lying in bed trying to sleep for probably 6 or 7 hours. Then I had the first Methods exam today and I feel like my sleep deprivation impacted my performance a lot. Does anyone know if I'd be eligible for a derived examination score in this situation? Or would VCAA just not really care?
Thanks.

VCAA is obliged to care as long as you can get proof from a health professional and get them to fill out a form. I believe you also need your principal to determine whether your application has any merit too. Unfortunately though, derived exam scores are reserved only for illnesses/conditions that arise during your exam period, a long-term condition like insomnia should’ve been put on your SEAS application. If your insomnia was caused by exams, it may be worth a try to apply for a derived score anyways. Keep in mind, you have like 2 days after your exam to do this.
