Misquoting in Text Response
SxG:
How strict do the examiners mark you on quotes in exams? I was doing Sky Burial and one of my quotes involved something like "she was fearful what such a forecast could bring", but the actual quote was "she was afraid what she can learn from such a revelation"
The wording's completely different, but I think the meaning remains around the same. I used quite a lot of quotes in both my text respones (Not excessively, use them when I need to), and I'm pretty sure I got the rest of them 100% correct.
Would the examiners mark me down on that one quote? Or would they be lenient and let it slide? If they do mark me down, how much would they do it by
Ahmad:
They'd let it slide I'd imagine.
Odette:
Let's hope your examiners are lenient lol ...

A family friend is a marker and she said that its is ok to misquote slightly if the general theme of the quote is shown eg. "barely there" used instead of "hardly there" won't make a difference in a big quote. However, that being said if the quote is unfamiliar to the marker they'll look it up maybe or ignore it or accept it. Mind you these markers are highly highly specialised per book.
SxG:
I dunno. My English teacher once said that it's very bad for you to be inaccurate about what happened in the text. As in if the text says she swims to go to school, and then in the essay you says she drove a car, then you're royally screwed
The thing is this is not a slight misquote, what I did was quite a few different words. But the thing is the meaning remains roughly the same and I haven't gotten any textual events wrong. So I dunno what happens when they mark it and notices the error
Although I really didn't get any other quotes wrong at all so if they're willing to see it as a very odd blemish they might let it slide
