So does spesh really cover EVERY SINGLE THING in methods besides probability?
this will help me decide on the holidays if i only do exercises from the spesh book and prob from methods one, OR do from both....
thanks

From what I recall, it covers everything except probability and composite functions. I seem to recall there might have been one other thing as well but I can't remember.

Spesh covers pretty much everything of trig and calculus. However there are some small calculus topics such as Linear approximation and average values which are only covered in methods. However the method's book will contain worded problems for trig specific to methods whilst the spesh book won't cover that stuff

No, it doesnt cover anything on families of functions (this includes modulus function, fractional powers etc...., also stuff like f(g(x)) functions as well as addition of functions. Also sketching of trig functions isnt covered as much in spesh maths (they mainly focus on inverse trig and cot etc.. not so much on sin and cos)) However thats all pretty much just chapter 1,2and 3 stuff which isnt too hard. The rest is ALL covered in spesh except probability

Ah yes, linear approximation was the other one I think. I remembered there was only two things in addition to probability that I had to cram before the Methods exam =\

Isn't that covered (under eulers method stuff?)

Kind of. But most people don't actually realise that Euler's method is linear approximation in disguise. Also, there's some slight variations of linear approximation in application questions that I've seen though which wouldn't be covered in spesh as Euler's method isn't used for the same applications, and for most people, would require getting familiar with them independently.

Good point.

Don't really see much of transformations in specialist mathematic either and it hasnt appeared in the exam since i think 2002 or 2003 where you had to describe the transformations on the circle to get the elipse.

No it doesnt. Methods is assumed knowledge for specialist though.

I believe its beneficial to do both courses, as both despite having overlaps in particular areas, have questions which are of a different nature (despite being within the same topic) compared to the other.
