Members leaving

Hello

I just thought maybe when members leave or de activate their account there could be like a survey or something where they CAN if they want write or select from a drop down menu reasons for leaving.

This can in itself create suggestions to how to IMPROVE this site. Especially if it's sometihng "negative" and people who are ACTIVE, may be afraid to say.

Like I see DOZENS of sites where when i click "delete account" I have the ability to click an option to why I left e.g. " in Facebook it has "safety reasons...i get too many e-mails...privacy....i dont like it anymore". This way, a graph/tally can be created and we well, the Mods/ Admin can see which one is high and work on it, e.g. maybe people dont realise you can stop e-mails being sent to you (lol, bad example I know, people dont exactly leave VN because of this)

I just thought I'd suggest this because sometimes really useful people with hundreds/ or low thousands of post, just LEAVE like that, its like a chunk has been pulled out of me  :'(  e.g. Kurrymuncer, Khalil, DanielTennis (who has now returned), and several others who have posted a lot.

Lol, only kidding, but yeah  :)

I think the major reasons why people leave this site are fairly obvious. Either they leave only because they have finished VCE or they get really bad ENTERs and don't want any reminders of the failures.

^ Thats a good point you make, but i have only been on this site since early 2009, and results are not out yet, and ive seen an exodus of people relative to those "Active" members.

But your's would be a reason as well.

i think they leave because they get harrassed by emails and on msn with people asking them for stuff, just expecting them to help and being really rude about it

Don't worry, kurrymuncher is still hanging around here.  He's still the same guy we know but keeping a low profile.  :)

lol you're right, hence I don't give out my email ><

LOL, well at least it shows you're/they're smart if they are being chased ><

But thats why theres an option to hide ur email from the site....i have a feeling thoguh not everybody knows that.

Some drop down menu options could include;

  • I don't feel safe (privacy)
therefore admin would know, thus more privacy can be made e.g. "hiding profiles" or "last posts"

  • Harassment
Tougher stance on harassment

  • I have finished VCE
More advertisement/ pointing out that  Uni section exists e.g. maybe building it up

  • I don't have enough time/ the site takes up a lot of study time
Maybe a TIMER could be placed on the site e.g "you have been on for 2 hours"

  • I'm bored/over it/nothing new/not like how it used to be
Have a "more info/comment section if a user selects this

  • I receive too many e-mail notifications
Make it clearer you can stop e-mails being sent via profile settings

  • Not enough free (study) notes
i.e. the site is too much socialization/talking/general discussion or these members are leechers =P

  • I do not get help with my work
same as above

Please note, I personally do not experience these "issues", I was just pointing out what OTHERS may feel/ I started a list.

That's been a major thing for this site.  Random people who just sign up with 0 posts and then PM'img to to re-upload things that you uploaded 10-12 months ago.

^ I agree. For some reaosn I get annoyed when people sign up, 0 posts, and dont sign in again.....it's like WTH. If you look at the "members" button we have 26 pages i think of like HUNDREDS/thousands of members, 95% of which don't use the site anymore/use it once/dont post.

LOL, i think its just I feel they are a waste of space on the server >< their name wastes unnecessary Kb

They might be long time readers, never time posters?
They always show up :P.
Well since the max number of people online has been 200 something....out of *insert infinite sign* members..... lol.

But I like it that way kinda, makes it a smaller/more personal community ><

That's 200+ members at one point of time. I think there are way more people coming on here if we look at 24 hours :P
