Best Uni for medicine in Australia?

(1/4) > >>

stonecold:
What is the best University in Aus for a Medical Degree?  By best I mean the most internationally recognized, as I hope to move overseas one day.
Also I wan't to specialize in Anaesthesiology, so are there any Uni's which I may be better suited to?
And finally, is are entrance requirements the same everywhere?  (i.e. ATAR, UMAT and interview are used to consider entry?)

Eriny:
I don't think it actually matters that much, unless you want to do medical research. At any medical school in Australia you're pretty much guaranteed a job. The current med students should be able to give you a better insight, but anywhere you can get into is good.

Thanks for the info.  :)

Actually in a couple of years (can't remember the exact year) there will be an overload of doctors due to the increase in med school places, and not enough intern spots.
Preference is given to CSP med students, compared to full-fee med students.
This will make it difficult for international students & graduates from Bond Uni (all FFP) to get an intern place moreso then CSP students.

And stonecold, if you want to know the top med school in Aus, you can look at ranking sites (which aren't all that accurate) which generally say the group of 8 are the top unis for med. But that's not to say that Uni of Tas or other schools aren't good. since they are. to get into med anywhere is a very good achievement and since they all pass the same accreditation, all med schools are somewhat equal.

example of rankings:
13. uni of melb
15. uni of sydney
21. ANU
(all the above are grad med though)
25. monash (first undergrad)
28. UQ (provisional entry perhaps?)
ect.
