Again, costargh, a stunning contribution to the discussion!

Rietie: I'm looking into a more exciting background for the content area with more colour. I think I might take on board the mix of colours suggstion, I'll see how it pans out.

I think you've got a theme of orange and blue, right? Just make the colour lighter and bolder, and maybe put more emphasis on the orange, or to highlight certain boxes or whatever. Or maybe make the colours a shade darker than the logo/banner colours, to give the banner/logo more emphasis. And please get rid of that background writing stuff.
After all that it should look pretty cool.

Yeah, maybe use something closer to sky blue, which is brighter, and maybe a more yellowy orange. Less black, more colour. Maybe we should have a design-a-background competition too cos the current one is pretty ugly :P

Nope, I'm only gonna change the background of the content area and perhaps add droodles' idea of a blurred image of books instead of the current grey.

The site looks a bit cramped to me...im using ffox browser...the whole window isnt used....
also the font could use a change (My favourite is Trebuchet MS...but thats just me) and the links could be done better as well...(i remember doing flash links in dreamweaver...cant remember how to now...but im sure someone here has the skills)
It's got potential though...lol

the site/forum theme looks like a tacky ripoff of bored of studies at the moment. I'd recommend a re-think of colours as you don't want to look like you are just copying them.

The notes are a great idea, but a little messy at the moment, but i'm sure improvements will continue to happen to make them good.

It *is* a rip-off of Bored of Studies. :-/ Just on a faster server with better functionality for the Notes system.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and we don't charge for our notes. :)

yeh but it looks like a shitter version (no offence)

going with similar colours makes this site look very tacky and unprofessional in contrast to it.
