Occasionally, in answering a question, a textbook chemist may convert his or her answer out of SI units for the final answer.

My problem is that this can often mean a very different result in terms of significant figures to my own answer (which I generally keep in SI units no matter how 'unusual' it might be in a particular context.

Is it acceptable for these conversions to be made before the number of significant figures are determined

always get ur final answer without rounding n from then on you can convert it to the desired unit.
