I like learning physics. :)

Except in class it always seems kind of tedious and there's too many question that I have in general. Most of which I can't get satisfactory answers to because it goes deeper than the stuff that we get taught. D:

The problem with VCE physics is that it doesn't test real thought. It's a shame, because physics problems are a lot of fun.

That said, it's a similar case for most VCE studies.
Yeap I agree, the problem with VCE Mathematics is that it doesn't test real thought. It's a shame, because maths problems are a lot of fun.

At least the VCE maths course is a lot more respectable than the VCE physics course, which is a currently a joke :p

VCE Physics teaches circuitry instead of the more fundamental topic of electricity.
It teaches that magnetism is a bunch of hand rules, instead of why it is like that, and unveiling its fundamental similarity to electricity.
It asks us to memorize explanations when we should be discovering things for ourselves - and what's more, it tells us what experiments discovered and not what the discoveries really mean.
One of the two most important and profound aspects of modern physics, relativity, is an 'optional' study.

Real physics is a massive leap from vce physics

I love physics! I must be the only person doing a physics (mathematical physics) major on VN.

I love maths and physics a lot (especially if you are doing physics problems that mainly have maths in them). Electromagnetism only gets better as you go further, relativity becomes somewhat confusing and quantum mechanics is very confusing, yet interesting.

As for VCE physics... university physics makes VCE physics seem somewhat like child's play. Anyway I can't wait for this year thermal and classical physics, electromagnetism and optics and Quantum Mechanics and Special Relativity (this will be interesting to see how I go).

Physics beats chemistry.

I completely agree. I wish that the course incorporated a little more creativity, but alas, what to do...

Calculations and stuff for motion + electronics was good. Memorising a bunch of descriptions about light and matter was boring as hell :/

Physics I think is like biology in some ways. Not the content ofcourse but in ways like, its interesting to study but hard, for me atleast. :)

I consider biology and also chem to some degree much more memory-based, which I dislike. Physics is more about understanding rather than memorizing large volumes of content.

That's probably true. I think this year at the olympiad summer camp every single student (although I may have missed one or so) doing physics is going into year 12. There's quite a mixture in other sciences. I guess it's easier to study for something when you're younger rather than possess a sophisticated understanding.

The continual reference to the hand gestures in the electric power chapter especially irritated me. It's even worse when you express it in words. It sounds like you're trivializing it when you say "It teaches that magnetism is a bunch of hand rules", but you're really not.

So is physics harder than Chem?
2009
~ Methods (Non-CAS) [48 --> 49.4]

2010
~ Spesh [50 --> 51.6]
~ Physics [50 --> 50]
~ Chem [43 --> 46.5]
~ English [46 --> 46.2]
~ UMEP Maths [5.0]

2010 ATAR: 99.90
Aggregate 206.8
