Why do people tend do Chinese 3/4 in Y11?
kyzoo:
I've been viewing it as the norm for a while, and then it just struck me as strange.
People tend to do French SL in Y12.
IntoTheNewWorld:
I think it's because many people have been going to Chinese school since they were very young, and one more year really won't make a difference. May as well get it out of the way. On the other hand people start French in year 7 or so, and one year can make a significant difference.
vexx:
a lot of people tend to do a 3/4 in their first language or a language they can speak quite fluently before yr12 so they can obtain a high score and get it out of the way. i know a girl who did 3/4 hungarian in grade 10 and got 47 cos she spoke it fluently and she didn't study once for it haha.
kyzoo:
O, I haven't done much Chinese school, my Chinese is 80% self-taught, I started Chinese in Y7, and my Chinese has improved tenfold this year; so I'm not really able to relate to this "one more year won't make a difference" perception, but I guess I can understand it.
Gloamglozer:
I did Chinese: SL in year 11 because there were only two available 3+4 subjects for me to do:
1. LOTE: Chinese SL or
2. Religion & Society 3+4
Now if you had to choose, which one would you pick? lol
