Haha I like that it kinda rhymes. Good advice generally, too. Although I wonder if a student might do better having waited an extra year, at least in the case of Chinese - not only due to having more time, but also being more mature in their study habits.

kyzoo:
haha i just made it up on the spot just then.

And in my case, an extra year definitely helped. I didn't even know how to write 吃 a year ago.

but a friend enrolled in chinese 3/4 for both yr 11 and yr 12 , but didn't sit the exam 4 yr 11, so the yr 12 chinese becomes less stressful for her as she has covered most of the content in yr 11.

This is so true. In my case, I studied in a Unit 3/4 class in my chinese school when I was in year 10, so I basically covered all the essay types and finished my detailed study. Then I just spent year 11 practising and fixing things up, and it worked fine for me.

I didn't realise it at the time, but LOTEs actually take a lot more time to perfect compared to other subjects, coz the content is not strictly outlined in the study design per se, and you can always improve your knowledge, especially for the oral component.

I strongly recommend doing chinese in year 11, because you simply would not have enough time to practise adequately for the oral exam. After all, the last month or so is when you memorise all the responses, etc. Otherwise if you have no choice but to do it in year 12, start preparing real early. It all adds up in the end.
