if you wanted an single undergraduate degree anyway you most likely wouldn't do another undergraduate degree just after finishing your previous one. You would most likely want to do a post graduate degree or honours.

Yes you would, because an Arts/Commerce double degree for example lasts 3 years, whilst doing Arts then Commerce takes 6.

If your talking about Melbourne...its not 5 years, its 6. So I rather take the 4 year double degree than waste 2 more years of my life.

ummm no, Im not going to email them, because I dont really give a shit. but anyway, the website says that arts is 3 years and commerce is 3 years. So doing one after the other is 6 maybe? I dont know, maybe its their error.

I think he means you can get credit for already doing a degree before which makes the 2nd degree quicker to finish. Still besides the point. Takes longer and people don't do that (often)

This is not necessarily the case. For example, I'm doing Business Law, Corporate Law and Tax Law all as breadth. I would argue they have a lot of relevance to Commerce? Furthermore, I did economic history as a breadth last year, and my remaining ones are property market subjects.
So, that comment isn't completely true.

Wasn't 'defending' them as such, just pointing out it's not really as bad as doing 25% of your degree that have absolutely nothing to do with Commerce. Don't get me wrong I'd rather not do them, but you'd have to do those law subjects anyway no? So realistically it's only 3. Meh whatev.
