Objective Measures Adv/Disadv

Hi.

I have a list of my notes of the adv/disadv for each measure (pretty much taken word-for-word off the textbook), and for the measure type as a whole.

And i realised i had wrote the wrong thing for Object Measures (taken from direct observation's ones lawl)

I had for advantages:
- excellent capture of quant/qual data
- specific behaviours can be observed
- software programs simplify collection&analysis
- useful in a variety of settings including contextual information

Is this correct for the Objective measures as a whole? It sounds correct to me.. but need verification !

Does anyone know a few Disadvantages for Objective Measures? I have some for each individual measure but not objective as a whole

You cant observe TYPE of behaviour with all object measures. Pedometers, Accelerometers, Doubly Labelled Water, Heart-rate monitors dont tell you TYPE for instance. Direct observation does but thats about it. (I think theres a strong argument that DO is a subjective method)

Another thing to remember is that subjective measures are better for groups and objective methods are better for individuals.

Disadvantages;
- sometimes expensive
- not great with large groups
- Delay with HR monitor readings (ie. 100m sprint - heart rate is still raised despite being inactive for minutes after the race)

I think you need to look at each method of measuring PA separately rather than grouping them into objective and subjective.

ahhh i'm an idiot, i just thought about it after reading what you just said and now i feel silly. because clearly those advantages were for direct observation.. growl

yeah i have them for each, but i wanted one's for the whole group in case i get a question

"what are 3 adv and 3 disadv for objective measures?"

hopefully they won't ask that and only ask about the specific measures...

If they do ask that you could just say
with heart rate monitors.. delay blah blah,
accelerometers dont account for behaviours which are predominantly upper body movements.
direct observation is expensive as observers need to be trained.
for disadvantages.

Vadnal:
There wont be a question on your SAC saying list 3 advantages and disadvantages for objective measures. It is likely that you will get a small case study, and have to provide a objective measure, and explaining reasons why you chose it.
