- Kellers story reveals the darker side of the human experience: Pauls story reveals the lighter side. Discuss

- At the end of the novel Paul says: Keller was bad for me, the worst possible teacher. Do you agree with Paul?

- Despite the often light-hearted tone of Maestro, there is an underlying sadness. Discuss

- Maestro is a story of betrayal and cowardice. Is this how you see the novel?

- Goldsworthy’s use of music conveys ideas about character that are critical
