Examples Thread 2010 :)

Seeing as there was an examples thread a couple of years ago for the '08ers I figured i'd get the ball rolling with another examples thread, where people can ask for examples and others (namely, ex-business management students) can help assist us :)

I'll get one started;

I need an example for;
- Globalisation
- Economies of Scale
- Pricing Competitors out of the market (under the topic heading, 'Negative Contributions to the Economy', under Engaging in Anti-Social Behaviour)

look in the A+ notes, they offer valuable examples that you can take on board

These are just for when I am asked to Define, and i should provide an example to achieve the full mark or 2 marks it gives..
How so would McDonalds be a part of Globalisation, is it because they are transnationally based around the world?

Ok here we go,

GLOBALISATION refers to the process of increased international trade and social exchanges as a result of the breakdown of trade barriers and improved technology.  An example of globalisation is that of many Australian surf companies, such as Ripcurl and Billabong. Both of these countries now sell (Europe and America) and manufucature (Asia) their goods in overseas nations to take advantage of lower labour rates and manufacuturing expertise.

ECONOMICS OF SCALE refers to the cost advantage gained due to the expansion of production. They are factors that cause a producers cost per unit to fall as scale is increased, resulting in greater efficiency and therefore better profits for the LSO. Supermarkets such as Coles and Safeway gain benefits of economics scale as when they buy more food in bulk they receive lower average cost prices. This allows  them to increase sales margins and thus increase profits.

Customer complaints refer to a consumer dissatisfaction in a product or service resulting in informing the organization of their disappointment.

Hope this is okay ?!

Alright, I'm about to provide an extensive list of definitions I need examples for, Here it goes;
- Bureaucracy
- Functional Model
- Divisional Model
- Corporate Culture
-Official Corporate Culture
- Real Corporate Culture
- Optimum Structure (not sure if it's possible)

Also would someone be able to explain to me this disadvantage of the Functional Model;
- Responsibility of problems may be difficult to pin-point

How can that be if as an advantage it says that problems can be easily solved due to managers within each area?

Greatly Appreciated :) :)

Yeah tried the text book, and have searched google for a while now and can't seem to find an example, they mainly provide detailed summaries of the glossary terms and give a generalised example (e.g. large complex organisations)..

Also would someone be able to explain to me this disadvantage of the Functional Model;
- Responsibility of problems may be difficult to pin-point

How can that be if as an advantage it says that problems can be easily solved due to managers within each area?

Anyone able to help me with that? ^^^
