Why did UniMelb scrap undergrad med and dent? :/
crayolé:
Ffs, I really want to pursue a career in either of these two. Melbourne uni would have been the perfect candidate :/
Monash is 2 hours away and Bendigo is ever further :/
If I go to either of these two would i still be able to immerse myself in the uni culture in the CBD? I've already experienced a bit of it and I dont think I would be able to live without it ;P
Is it worth doing the extra three years of biomed/science at Melbourne?
*ryan777*:
i live almost 2 hours from monash (during bad peak hour train systems :P ), you learn to structure your life accordingly, so yeah you could still enjoy uni life to some extent
if you had the money, you could always move closer to uni
is it worth the 3 years?....if u really wanna pursue something, u will know urself how much ur willing to put in to get it, its very much something u need to decide for urself
silva112:
Probably worth going to Monash instead as doing biomed or science at UoM doesn't guarrentee that you'll get into your postgrad degree of choice. I do believe though that if you get 99 ATAR or above and maintain a 75% average you can get a guarenteed full-fee place. You need 99.9 and above for the CSP.
physics:
i believe it as being a waste to do NO OFFENCE 3 years of my life in biomed/science then doing the course i havae wanted to do so i rather come out of school and go into the course i want to do...welll i guess if u wanna be like a doctor or dentist or optometrist u would have to go through that but biomed is in melbourne somewhere so its close :P
chocolate05:
as silva112 mentioned, theres no guarantee into postgrad med (unless you graduate yr12 with a 99.9 atar and hold a minimum of 75% avg in uni i think it is?). there will be such an immense competition to get a place into undergrad med, your not only competing against the thousands of kidswho do biomed or science at melb uni, your also competing against the other kids at monash, deakin, la trobe .etc worst case scenario..lets say what if you don't into postgrad med. would you be satisfied with just a biomed or science degree? it would be more "safer" to go monash for example and do an undergrad med course that way you will be able to practise med after you graduate instead of wasting 6 or so years at melb uni... by no means am i advocating you to go to monash though :P go with your instincts...if you have your heart set on melbourne, then go to melbourne.
