One of your SAC's, the one on the core module, is 'the application task', and it must take a large amount of time because of all that it has to cover; from the study design:

Quote
A data analysis application task using contexts for
investigation from a suitable data set selected by the
teacher. The task has three components of increasing
complexity:
• display and organisation of univariate and bivariate data
• consideration of general features of the data
• analysis of the data such as regression analysis, the
use of transformations to linearity, deseasonalisation,
smoothing, or analysis of time series.

My school was so awesome last year.  We didn't do any lengthy application tasks.  Just 1.5 hour SAC's.  There were 3 for core.  And they still covered all of the criteria which matty pointed out.

Just confirmed today that the Further students at my school -there's only 5- will be given the SAC on Monday, and be required to submit it on Wednesday; they have two 40 minute periods in school as well as two whole days and nights in which to complete it. :2funny:

The teachers logic is that no one has tutors and this way if they are committed they will work on it, if not, then they will ignore it...

So, how is everybody finding this SAC? I know further is seen as a bludge to many but to avoid the risk of falling into a false sense of security, is the SAC difficult?
atm I'm doing chp 4 off maths quest and I never do any homework for further maths and in class we only do 3-4 questions per exercise. so, does anybody think that its worth doing all the questions off the textbook? I was just thinking of looking at the worked solutions examples for each exercise as revision and a bit of checkpoints, but should i be doing more? :(

Wait. I read your question as "how many in Further" for some peculiar reason.

There are 12. Quite small classes.
This year
  • Eng 12
  • Lit 4
  • Methods 2
  • Physics 12**
  • Specialist 6**
  • Chemistry 6**
  • Texts and traditions 2
  • Music 1
  • Psych 10
  • Biology ~20 ? **
  • Further 5
  • Studio arts 5
  • Sport and recreation 4 ?
  • Business Management 8

So quite high student-teacher ratio..

NOTE: Studies marked with asterisks "**" are a combined class with another local school; some students from my school go there for subjects and some of their students come to my school for some subjects. Sadly, I have to go to their school for Chem and Spec...

So it does have its drawbacks, which are a pain in the ass, but I still prefer less to more in this situation. The teachers, however, are another matter altogether...

Further Maths isn't a difficult subject. What's hard about is the understanding of the concepts. Rote learning is a big NO when it comes to further maths, although some formulas can be memorised. But it is better off to know where it is derived from.

OK about the SAC, i've done a practice on it. And seriously, the calculations are easy! But what's hard about it is the way you express the maths. My teacher considers the expression and interpretation far more important than the actual calculations... To be honest it didn't really seem like Maths at all to me...

Have you done your SAC yet? it varies from school to school, as well as the marking scheme
