Is there any need to know those complicated trajectory equations involving angles and trig? such as h=u^2sin^2theta/2g?

you can remember them to check ur answers with but its not necessary
PhD @ MIT (Economics).

Interested in asset pricing, econometrics, and social choice theory.

No, because you can derive them from first principles if you understand them comprehensively enough.
