there's not really provisional entry? but do you mean guaranteed place?
they are getting rid of 'full-fee' needing 99+ and i spoke to them over the phone and they said even if you get 99+ and satisfy the requirements you won't be guaranteed anyway. so their website is deceptive.
for a 'real' guaranteed place, you need 99.90+ and maintain a solid 75% GPA and do a satisfactory interview.
that what you mean?
if you get 99.90+ you have a solid chance of getting in to melbs graduate:)

I know interstate is an option but i've pretty much discounted it.

Wouldn't it be really hard to support yourself? You'd have to work quite a bit to pay for accommodation, food and just general other expenses (going out, ect).

You'd have to work quiet a bit and the medical degree is pretty full on contact hour wise as it is.

Just interested to hear what you guys think...

the way i look at it, it's gonna take ages for me to get where i want to be, without the hiccups.  i really can't afford to be throwing away years on top of it.  yeah sure it's gonna cost money to live interstate, but if i can get my degree quicker, i'll  be able to pay it back quicker anyway.

theres also the distinct possibility of not getting an internships as soon as you leave uni, which is more time gone.
also, i forgot where i read this, but it was somewhere on here.  uni only takes up like 30 or 32 weeks of the year, so you can still come back to melb for a fair part of the year....

@ vexx - yeah, i think that was it.  those lying bastards.  i swear i read somewhere that you got a place in medicine if you agreed to do the science degree first!

kingpomba- on second thoughts i'd probably prefer biomed because i find it more interesting, but last year i was considering just applying for science as i wanted to do psychology as well, because you can't really do that as your science subjects in biomed. so science is better if you want to choose all your subjects.

and stonecold- yes it's a three year degree and you'd have to do a science or biomed undergrad to be able to get the right prereqs for the MD, it will be extremely competitive as it melb has always been known for their prestigious as med degrees, it'll be a fucking killer to get into- there's always interstate though:)

vexx you want to get into medicine?
..if you don't get straight into medicine, then biomed is probably better pathway to get into it
although theres a guy i know whose doing science and did the gamsat and is hoping to transfer into medicine but this is after his 3rd yr..
but if you want to do just biomed... then doing science or biomed really doesn't matter... depending on what major you want to do since you can choose whateva you want to do in third yr biomed... and some of those you can do in science as well

kingpomba- getting a CSP spot at any med school interstate, even getting a loan to help pay for accommodation (i'd go to college and be fed and all that then live back in melbourne during breaks) it's actually not that much if you think about the easiness of eventually being able to pay it back. it's definitely an option, but really, depends on how much you want it, having parents you are willingly wanting to support you is also a good thing to have, but it's definitely possible to do so without their aid. (could even get youth allowance, etc.)

stonecold- in a few years there is going to be an official guarantee on all CSP med school places getting an internship, this was released last month this information it could happen next year or the year after but unlikely. but the time we are out of med school there is a very very high chance this will be in place, i could almost be certain. so don't worry about that, we are definitely going to get an internship as lots more money is going into the hospitals to increase internship places and then in a few years after the same is happening with specialities:)
anddd depends on the uni, some med schools go from jan right to nov/dec (these are mainly the graduate ones) so the others are normally feb-nov, maybe even less for the first few years.

yeah this is exactly right, doing biomed/science is exactly the same in the long-run, just depends on your tastes. i personally don't want to go through this pathway unless i have to or are afraid to move interstate since i really want to just do straight undergrad med :)

yep!

although going to melbourne and doing biomed/science is one dream of mine, medicine is a bigger dream and my reasoning to attempt to refuse that path is that those three undergraduate years are going to be extremely stressful to ensure i have top marks in everything- may be hard! and the GAMSAT - oh the dreadful sounding gamsat... worse then the umat imo.

ah okay well that's your parent's decision, remember that you can always finically support yourself without them, it's fairly easy to get youth allowance for your studying interstate if you they are knowledgeable about the lack of parental support.

my parents will support be purely because they know how much i want this and will help me if i want to study interstate:) it's definitely a help, but it's not a necessity, remember that you don't have to be limited by this.

if my parents didn't want to support me? would i care? no because i could find away around it!
it all depends on your willingness and motivation!
