TSFX 09

Ok guys just did this paper got 87% for it. Wondering if this is good/bad as I've heard TSFX isn't that good but I found this paper to be quite interesting (albeit, with some FAIL solutions at some points).

edit: serine at pH 9 the alcohol in the Z group doesn't act as an acid?

 - If an equivalence point is below 7 and i use phenolphalien as an indicator (starting with a basic solution) wouldn't the end point show BEFORE the equivalence point? Thus we would be using LESS and thus a lower percentage (of a hypothetical acid-base reaction) in the end?

In my honest opinion, tsfx exams are not indicative of VCAA exams in comparison to other commercial trial exam companies. Fairly good score though, well done. I think I completed this paper and found it somewhat strange at times. Cbf digging it up though..

I did it and got 86% screwed up the last question, got it all wrong =\ Failed pretty hardcore...

The exam is fairly dodgy.

Alcohols 'never' act as acids (Mao said they need pH>14 before they will donate).

Oh he did didn't he! Yeah I was basing it off pretty bad thinking (oh in a carboxy there is a hydroxyl.................. yeah.....................).

I didn't find it overly dodgy. Just dog in some places. They also fail at oxidation numbers.

Yes, the end point will be premature, and yes this means a lower titre. But from that you infer that there is a higher concentration of the analyte in the conical flask, and hence to answer the question, a markedly higher percentage purity.

If they react 1:1 then say.

Less volume means less mol. Means less mol in the other one. Means less mass.

Or am i doing chemistry at 12 in the morning and failing.  :-[

I just did the 2010 tsfx. Also has some pretty interesting questions in it, and some really stupid stuff too...
