Good question coblin! I've always been interested in finance - specialised in economics/geography and then changed to maths over time, to maintain viability. The system is very short of maths teachers! In the job, it is good to be flexible. You never stop learning that way - keeps the brain active! However, I do enjoy economics/geography and try to keep up with what is happening in those areas.

By the way...are personal car loans and hire purchase simple interest or compound interest thingamabobsies???
Does fixed rate = simple interest and variable rate = coompound interest????

I used the formula for simple interest and it looks wrong...but then I used a formula for housing loans (reducible loans)  and it looks right(but they are for housing loans!! Not personal loans!!)

Me confused.....and sooo frustrated!! I hate FINANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!  >:( >:( >:( >:(

Awesome. I expect to do the same after completing my Engineering (Chemical)/Commerce degree. I will pick one for my job, but I will be forever interested in the other (and other fields too!)

I also find economics very interesting, but finance isn't so interesting to me (options, stocks and bonds make me sleepy). Financial mathematics is nice and fun though.

Meh, at least you like mathematical finance which is equally as good.
