In the assessor's reports it says that theta waves DEFINE stage 1 sleep. If this is so, what brain waves are in stage 2?

Stage 1 is made up of alpha and theta waves, stage 2 is JUST theta, stage 3 is theta and delta, etc.

I spose the alpha waves of stage one are just at the beginning so the theta waves are more prominent in deeper-stage 1.....

stage 1 = 35% alpha waves , 65% theta waves .. thats why the examiners say its theta

So in a question where it says: describe the brain wave patterns in stage 1 NREM sleep, do I just describe theta, or both alpha and theta.

The assessor's just describes theta!

I hate Psych.

and I think describe alpha and theta, but put more emphasis on theta
alpha definitely isn't wrong!

Biology's pretty horrid with wording.

But Psych would be worse because there's more definition than application questions.

Legal is bad for wording. PE is laid back.

Ok, so in terms of the majority of brain waves in a stage of sleep:
S1-theta
S2-theta
S3-theta
S4-delta
REM-beta

Ok, so in terms of the majority of brain waves in a stage of sleep:
S1-theta
S2-theta
S3-theta
S4-delta
REM-beta

S1-a decrease in alpha and an appearance of theta
S2-theta waves, slower and larger than in stage 1
S3-theta waves, slower and larger than in stage 2. beginning of slow wave sleep, delta waves are 20-50% of this stage

okay this may seem silly but it may help you guys to remember what brain wave stage one consists of . i think of the sentence " At stage one "    The Letter A in the word "AT" stands for alpha and the letter " T" in the word At stands for " theta. Goodluck =] !
