Is it really important to be good at the calculator when it comes to spesh? Apparently high methods scorers with poor calculator skills get trashed in spec exam 2..

Because exam 2 (which I believe is tech-active) is worth 44% in both methods and spec, I would presume that high scorers would probably need at least decent calculator skills for both... it really saves time if you know how to navigate and use it efficiently :)

Last year's Specialist Exam 2 was especially calculator-based. It's very important to be able to use your calculator efficiently, and you need to have enough experience to be able to troubleshoot if your calculator does something unexpected.

ofcourse,

iirc, the last question on exam 2 in spesh last year, if you didnt know how to use the calculator, you were pretty much fucked. It wasn't a just a case of simply pressing solve(............. = ...., x) either

Is specialist maths really related to physics? Because apparently spech helps with physics as many of the formulae overlap etc.

It probably would help if you did the topics in specialist before you did motion in physics. But motion is in unit 3 physics, and kinematics etc is unit 4 of specialist.
Doing physics definitely made the concepts in kinematics a lot easier for me to understand though.

I think it's important to know how to use it, not just for exam 2, but in your daily homeworking or whatever it really helps confirm things. Even in exam 2 when you might not need to use the calc having it there to check complicated things is handy and a confidence booster, but you'd really have to know how to use it, and how you can make an equation confirm your answer...

yea, but don't get TOO reliant on the caculator, like you want to also get used to checking the ans by urself for exam 1. Like you SHOULD be able to do everything urself (but i do know that there are certian questions that require you to use a caculator but still....).

EDIT: WOOOOOOOO 500th POST :D
