i haven't taken a look, but i reckon so... and you have to know chapter 1 as well, since Unit 4: AoS 3 covers research methods.

i mean, why would they make a chapter in the book that is not in the study design?

true, but you never know, I mean the books aren't made by VCAA, may have something slightly irrelevant in there. also, from your past experience of Unit 3 would you agree that we have to know what's written in the blue boxes/ some of what's written in the blue boxes. the life examples obviously not, they'd differ within each text book, but some of them which are related to the subject matter.

but it may be better to just ask past students: do we have to know automatic and effortful encoding?

You only have to know the information in the blue boxes if it's also mentioned somewhere else outside of the blue boxes. Otherwise it's just random trivia that shouldn't be tested on.

I'd say so. Unit 3 exam and everything has really set me up well for unit 4. I know what to expect so ill probably start doing practice exams before the end of next term.

I used it. It was chapters 9-14 and chapter 1 for Unit 4.

so far i'm not liking unit 4, the subject matter seems dryer than Unit 3, and there appears to be a lot more of it

Ugh I really didn't enjoy research methods. Most people do think Unit 4 is a lot more dry; I suppose it is more theoretical in nature. It's harder to remember I think.

Ironic that the memory and learning section is harder to remember. Whats more ironic is that a person with 'psychology 50' is saying this.

Haha lol :) I think it's just because it's less concrete. But I enjoyed it though - Psych was awesome.

Memory and learning is awesome (but this is based from my experience with UMEP and no doubt VCE will be able to make it as dry as possible).
