oh sweet, i thought you were trying to trick us haha.

--- Quote from: "Defiler" ---for f: [3, infinity) -> R, f(x) = x^2 - 1, find f^(-1)
and state the domain of f^(-1)
there's a good question.
--- End quote ---
you're trying to say inverse of f?
if so it's easy. Let f(x) = y to make it easier. Swap the x's and the y's and solve for y ...
x=y^2 - 1
x+1 = y^2
therefore y = +-sqrt(x+1)
I have found that inverse questions usually come in the form of something like: y=2e^(x+1) - 3

is it me, or does methods look even more harder when its on the computer?? :?
costargh:
Nah when you actually type the question you realise what you write.

--- Quote from: "costargh" ---Umm is it...
f^(-1)= Square root of x + 1
dom f^(-1) = [8, infinity) ?
--- End quote ---
Ok so s/he gave you an easy one ... what's the range for that one? Just a little extra to see we can get you one more mark down :P
