What to do if you cannot think of any good/bad points for an essay?

What would you do if you were in the exam and had a mental block; rendering you unable to think of any advantages/disadvantages for a persuasive/evaluative essay?

I'm really scared I might get a topic that I won't be able to relate to well :/

this happens to me almost every essay
i get the prompt . then cant think of any REALLY good points.

best thing to do
analyse the KEY words that are in the promt in ur head. e.g
a prompt/topic may be " violence is a powerfull force which only creates further conflict , not solves it "

focus on violence as a POWERFUL force.
and make a little 2 min mind map on a spare sheet of ppaper with everything you can think of .. about violence . and its power .. and how it only creates destruction and not resolves conflict..

thats just what i do
find key words .. make a little mind map
then think about the points
and elaborate. :)

Luckily Chinese prompts aren't anywhere as complicated as the one matty posted above.

Most prompts you should have met in your practice (they are all very similar) or most are easy to begin with anyways. If worse comes to worse, you should choose another prompt to write on (I think there are 6- correct me if I'm wrong).
