Electrolysis Terminals

So positive is anode and negative is cathode. Is this referring to the power supply terminals or the actual electrode? Because in galvanic cells cathode and anode refers to the electrodes.

So that positive is anode and negative is cathode.

try again

Your opening post is still incorrect.

Anode is -ve; cathode is +ve. Power outlets are electrodes in their own sense...the fundamental concepts are exactly identical...the outlet allows for +VE, -VE and Earth...galvanics are DC, outlets are AC...otherwise the setup and conduct of electrical current is the same.

I thought anode is -ve and cathode +ve in galvanic but reversed in electrolysis?

You're right. I misread your OP.

So is this simply referring to the terminals of the battery or the actual electrode such as Au that is connected to the battery terminals?

Anode is the impure substance; cathode the pure...battery terminals not relevant...see pic
