1. Do we have to know every single half equation for the Cells & Battery chapter? :S cos not all of them are on the data booklet...

2. on page 430 & 431, it says the oxidation reaction for the alkaline cell is Zn (s) + 2OH-(aq) ---> Zn(OH)2 (s) + 2e-.  But shouldn't it be Zn(s) + 2H20 (l) ---> Zn(OH)2 (s) + 2H+ + 2e- ?

2) No. The way you have learnt to balance redox equations in VCE is only for acidic solutions. As this is a basic solution, the way of balancing the half-equation is different, and so the reaction specified in the book is correct.
