Selected chemical production

Sorry if this question has been asked before, but in how much depth do we have to know about the industrial production of chemicals other than our selected chemical? Will we ever be given a question in the exam which forces us to write about a chemical we haven't studied or are these questions written so that they're still doable, but are easier to answer if we have the background knowledge?

The exam will word the question in such a way that you will be able to talk about the chemical that you have studied at school. You wil NEVER have to talk about a chemical that you have not studied.

When i do exam questions, its mainly these type of question

Select the chemical you have studied
Write the general equation (i studied Sulfuric Acid, and its mainly 2SO2 + O2 -> 2SO3, or the final process step which is that Oleum to Final Production)
Write a Safety Hazard and what is done to combat this (Highly corrosive, wear gloves and glasses)
What is it used in the industry (Manufacture of Fertilizers)

It always revolves around those 3 questions

Take for example Lisachem 2010 Unit 4 Exam

-------------
During Unit 4 you studied one of the following chemicals in detail
Ammonia, Nitric Acid, Ethane, Sulfuric Acid
Circle the Chemical you studied.

i. Write the chemical formula of the chemical you studied. (1 mark)

ii. Write a balanced equation for the significant equilibrium reaction associated with the production of this chemical, and indicate where the equilibrium constant for this equilibrium increases or decreases with temperature. (2 marks)

iii. State one chemical property of this chemical and give an example of use of the chemical which depends on this property (2 marks)
------------------------------

So you can see that it mainly revolves around the general equations and and chemical use, its pretty straightforward
