darkphoenix:
Is monash the only one with the common first year?
Because i want to put engineering from other unis as a backup but im not too sure exactly what stream i would want to do..as most other unis offer specific streams.
jimmy999:
Engineering at UoM also has the common first year however it's not as good as Monash's one.
UoM get you to do only 2 engineering subjects over the year with the rest being maths, science and breadth.
Monash get you to do either 4 or 5 engineering subjects, plus relevant maths, science and a compulsory computing unit.
Hence Monash is better as you get to experience more engineering streams in greater detail. Each of those engineering subjects are specific to a type of engineering, however with UoM, those two subjects attempt to cover a lot of areas in engineering but not in as great as detail
TyErd:
what about RMIT?
taiga:
I think RMIT's electrical engineering is very good
jimmy999:
RMIT don't offer the common first year, you just go straight into learning engineering.
They may have some better specific engineering courses but this topic is about the common year.
The best thing to do is list Monash first, then list engineering streams that are similar and what you would be interested in.
For example, mechanical and aerospace are similar thus you could transfer across one of those in case you didn't like one.
