can someone solve this using CALC?

this is from the 2009 vcaa
 i tried solving this (see image) but my ti-89 fucks up and then i have to take the batteries out and wait 10 minutes.. wouldnt be ttooo great in an exam (does anyone know how to cancel/stop a command) .

I swear to god Mathods CAS is so shit.  calculators suck, always fuck up and freeze, take ages to draw graphs, and you have to know extra shit...

I just tried using my Ti-Nspire, i get an argument mismatch :S

I just tried using my Ti-Nspire, i get an argument mismatch :S
u mustve typed somethign wrong...  try typing the SD as 'a' , and solve for it.

its easier if you recognise that the equation is for the normal distribution curve with

The integral also means that

You can then convert this to z values to give:

solving this with the calculator gives and so to 4 D.P

i tried using this online website http://www.wolframalpha.com and it couldn't solve it,  it said something about error function

yeah, i know im meant to do it this way so was just curious if other way would work

and I also tried on the calculator with that massive equation but i cant do it either...

On and clear will stop the calc if it's frozen, learnt this in my last sac.

using INVERSE NORMAL on the calculator.     Pr(X<65.6)= 0.005 (by symmetry)  then you do invnorm(.005)  equate the answer isZ , which is equal to  (mean-65.6)/SD solve for SD
