what exam score will i need to get to get a ss of 40? i am ranked about 13th-15th out of 100 in my cohort for SACs.

mate, just aim for an A+, It can be hard to tell considering this year the exam is marked out of 65 instead of 60 in previous years, so there may be a fluctuation in A+ cut-off. Just based on the 90% mark, you can lose up to 117/130 and still get 90%

ok firstly, I suggest amalgamating all of your business notes of the year, type them up and place headings and whatnot, creating a nice big glossary at the back, bind it, and then memorise every single word in the document, depending on how long you spend, you should be able to know the course back to front in less than a week. Mine ended up being 50 pages (size 10 font if you're wondering), and was fully memorised in 5 days i.e. one area of study per day

there is no point speculating.
the VCAA system is so damn complex that it is almost impossible to determine what you will achieve.
Also, as the system is so reliant upon the results of others in your school/ranking/cohort/victoria-wide performance for that year, you cannot accurately judge it.

although if you are in the top 3 and are asking if you have the ability to achieve a 40+, then that is most certainly possible. Although dont flunk the exam.... two students in economics last year received A+ all throughout the year and received a 39 and 38.
