Significance of Matrix

Is there any easy way to find out what is the significance of a resultant matrix such as when AB=C, what is the significance of C and what does the rows and columns represent?

I am not entirely sure how to check what is going on and what does the product give.

Just think about it for a moment ignore the matricies and see what you are multiplying.

If you had one matrix representing Amount of each type of food and then another saying the Cost per food item then the multiplication of them is finding the total cost for each food item.... think of it *without* the maticies there.

Oh right, so it has nothing to do with the rows and columns in matrices we are multiplying?

The significance? Not so much. The resultant dimention does depend on what its being multiplied by, that is a 9*8 by a 8*7 will result in a 9*7
