How badly do you want to do law / are you actually planning to do something with it in future or is it just a "looks good on my resume" thing?
I hate how some people do courses simply for the sake of prestige. :|

OP: I'd choose Monash simply because its closer/easier to get to. Check which graduates employers prefer. If you really cant decide though, check where your friends etc are going (Look at other aspects such as social)

A university being closer/easier to get to is even a shitter reason than prestige imo. It shouldn't come into play unless you have to travel ridiculous amounts.
No u misunderstand what i was saying. i was talking about people who do a whole course theyre not really interested in simply for prestige. Wasn't talking about a Uni for prestige. Like getting into law simply because it was the next option from medicine. -> thats what i hate. Because theres thousands of people who actually WANT to get into it (For reasons better than. 'My UMAT score wasn't high enough.' but cant (probably because they didnt do super-scaled subjects.)

I actually really want to do law, and not just for the sake of it. I'm really interested in the legal aspects of the finance/business sector, and having a sound understanding of how to interpret the law should help immensely in any career pathway I choose, regardless.

I've been told that the whole Monash v Melbourne scenario only effects you during your first job application. Seems like maybe it doesn't effect that much.

Does anyone know anything about internships or industry-based learning at UoM? I know that Monash has quite a few opportunities for IBL.

In that case I think Monash would be the safer option - if you choose UoM, you need to be prepared for the possibility that you won't get into JD/LLB and will end up with only a commerce degree.

Yep pretty much

This says it enough, if you want to go law, you really really should go to monash, who knows you might not get into postgrad law later on for some reason... (its closer too which is always good)

As much of a UoM fan i am, i've got to say go monash for your situation.

The 'prestige' factor is pretty much irrevant between Monash and Melbourne. If it was UoM and say deakin, THEN it would matter, between monash and UoM, the difference is neglible. E.g. when i went to do work experience at Mallesons, while everyone that went to monash said GO TO MONASJ IT"S THE BEST and everyone that went to mleboure were all GO TO MELBOURNE IT"S THE BEST. There is really no difference unless you have a strong personal preference.

The double degree offers a signifcant advantage for you as does the convnience.

But then again, if you want to do law really badly, and you dont get into Monash / Melb for law. Go to deakin for law. You can make it work for you, the Deakin law school is relatively new to Melbourne's.

Deakin gets a worse rap than it deserves

ok, ok maybe deakin wasn't the best exaple but my point still stands that Melbourne and Monash are more or less equally as good for when you want to find a job
