how long to take to address prompt?

Apologies for this broad question but:

im wiriting creative, handed a piece into my teacher (7/10) better than i thought lol)
but she said that i took far too long to craft my piece around the prompt.

So how many words would you write before addressing the prompt.

err well i guess theres no set word limit. i think i just do a general context statements or quote and then explain the quote before mentioning the prompt. do u have your essay online?
