Art criteria

Hey, I was wondering if anyone could clarify and explain to me (in baby terms) what each of the 6 criteria marks for art mean so that I can understand them and know exactly what I have to include in my folio. I also want to obtain a really high mark for art just to help with my enter to get me into a science course.

Here they are:
Criterion 1: Exploration and development of personal art responses, concepts, observations and skills through a broad and innovative investigation.

Criterion 2: Refinement of ideas and directions through the consolidation of thinking and working practices

Criterion 3: Trialling and application of materials and techniques within selected art form(s) through exploration, investigation and experimentation

Criterion 4: Understanding and application of formal elements and aesthetic qualities through exploration and refinement

Criterion 5: Resolution of concepts, ideas, directions, technical skills and formal qualities

Criterion 6: Realisation and presentation of a sustained body of work communicating thinking and working practices

alright here we go...
criterion 1: Exploration and development of personal art responses, concepts, observations and skills through a broad and innovative investigation.
to get a good score for your folio, it needs to show that your focused and show clearly your imagination.
you need to include concise annotation.
annotations should indicate the variety of directions that the concepts could lead to as possible solutions.
when researching do not rely on others material (pictures from magazines, internet...) as these dont show your OWN personal developments and responses. they do not provide investigations of media or skill development as they are not your own works! include lots of sketches and drawings of your own, even if you think you cannot draw, they need to be there!!

Criterion 2: Refinement of ideas and directions through the consolidation of thinking and working practices
you need to attempt to acknowledge strengths (what works for you) and weaknesses (all the stuff you have done but dont like, it is really important you keep these in your folio DONT throw anything out because througout your whole folio you have to justify all the time you have spent in art so if you have done a drawing that took you an hour, include it because if you dont you have to make up that hour and its all part of the development process.
consolidate  a body of work that shows imaginative refinement of ideas and techniques, show different ideas and different ways of portraying those ideas.
you must use substantial written and visual material to support this, keep up with your annotations!!

criterion 3: Trialling and application of materials and techniques within selected art form(s) through exploration, investigation and experimentation
investigate materials and techniques that are appropriate to what you are doing that will show understanding and competency in the processes that are relative to your intentions.
you must make sure that this is substantial and well documented throughout the whole folio from you initial investigation to your resolved artwork/s

criterion 4: Understanding and application of formal elements and aesthetic qualities through exploration and refinement
you need to show understanding and refinement of the formal elements from the initial body to the resolved body. show your awareness of aesthetic qualities again with the use of written and visual material.

criterion 5: Criterion 5: Resolution of concepts, ideas, directions, technical skills and formal qualities
show an exploration of your personal art responses. show resolutions of these concepts:
*ideas
*directions
*technical skills and formal qualities
you must document these with your written and visual reflections
explain your changes in development
comment on the strengths and weaknesses of your development that lead to your final piece/s

criterion 6: Realization and presentation of a sustained body of work communicating thinking and working practices
you may use a visual diary, loose sheets, box of materials (Good if your doing something like sculpture) or any combination however must be organised in themes to show your explorations from the initial ideas to the resolved piece.
show progressive documentation that shows your intentions and what you have achieved

thats all i can write for now, let me know if that helps, i will try and put some more stuff up soon :)

When your saying that I have to make use of the formal elements in my folio, how do I use it. The way I have been doing this is by using colour, tone, line etc. when explaining pictures I have stuck in my folio and why I like it.
If I was to follow and stick to the criteria, does it matter how much books I do. If I do one folio but I completed all the criteria is it ok.

Can I also ask that if I have drawn in my book from a picture from a magazine, do I have to stick it in my book also. In general, when taking information and using things as references, is it critical to always stick this in my folio to show that it is not my work and where I have drawn things from.

you can do as many books as you like its all about quality though, not quantity.

as for the magazine pictures, i do not think it is always necessary to stick them in, however if you do it does not hurt. when taking someone else's things however and are applying it to your own work however it is important your reference the artist that you got your inspiration from.

Is it still okay if I was to produce only 1 final peice for my folio and 1 and a half books and still be able to get an A+.
Or does that show that you havent produced enough work for a year's worth. See I'm running out of time and the folio is due at the end of this term. I'm planning to only do a painting on canvas but I believe I have a very good idea and originality with my piece.
thanks

one piece is fine, it shows your work has been refined.

My theme is flowers and I'm going to do a painting on canvas. It will be a painting of flowers and human faces combined together. I'm really scared that it's going to be due in a couple of weeks.

(you probably already know this but..) take photos at different stages of your painting for your folio, you need to show the actual process of the creation of the final not just the idea.

and you should put a photo on here of your final too.
i shall do the same for mine...

asap..
