Core transformation

When asked for the most "appropiate transformation" of a non-linear graph, do we look at the higher correlation coefficint value or the higher coefficent of determination value?

Correlation coefficient, (well any as the higher the correlation coefficient, the higher the coefficient of determination). Just gotta make sure r is +ve
