I still don't get any of the explanations of what baffle is in any textbooks - wiki's even more confusing

a baffle simply nullifies waves arriving out of phase as they destructively interfere and result in distorted sound.

A baffle is a "case" that surrounds the speaker. as superflya said previously it is used to ensure that waves coming from the back of the speaker dont diffract around the speaker and cause destructive interference.
