o really?
which books do you recommend wen your making bio notes.
i think my problem with bio is that im not specific enough :/

ya i like checkpoints. but idk if its the same with 3/4 but the tables you have to rule up for functioning/structure and stuff are so ANNOYING

I used Neap (written by the Chief Assessor), A+ Notes and checkpoints (only a bit near exams). Read NoB thoroughly as well.

I kinda found the checkpoints for methods to be a bit of a joke. Gave up with them after noticing how many misprints there were.

Neap...
do they make revision books too?

Its got revision questions (~60 MC + Short Answer) + 3 prac exams
There are two books: Unit 3 and Unit 4

No actual notes, but the revision questions are harder than the VCAA standard. Very good questions to do after reading NoB

Seconded. Forgot about that. It has like every scenario for an extended response section of an exam. Particularly useful in Unit 3 (for me at least).

i think need to copy your way of studying -
do you have a tutor
did you study in the summer holidays
for bio, do you have a notes bible too?
do you suggest trying really really hard with bio next yr even if this does mean slacking off on my math subjects?

No way dude
Don't slack with maths
Maths is awesome and pretty damn easy. (Y)
2010: Chinese SL (36 ---> 45.6), Accounting (48 ---> 48.4)
2011: English (47), Methods (50), Spesh (43 ----> 52.7), Chemistry (48 ----> 49.3), Physics (38)
ATAR: 99.90
2011 UMAT:
S1:[105] S2:[45] S3:[90] Overall:[80] Percentile: 100th

Need chem/methods tutoring?
I'm offering it based predominantly in the south-eastern suburbs (Caulfield-ish) - PM me.

:D

tutor - no (never), although considering one for english next year as my teacher failed badly with us this year

summer holidays - yes, but not too much, good to start the year fresh (to stop myself burning out before exams -like some of my unfortunate frineds)

bio notes - all hand written (without excessive highlighting) in a4 exercise books

slacking - personally I didn't put as much effort into bio (hence only aiming for a 40), because I felt that overdoing on one subject would jepordise my performances in 1+2s (which will all turn to 3+4s next year anyway). I put more effort into Unit 4 though as I fond there was far less things to wrote learn and more application (which I prefer). I never had Bio in my top 4 though - an early mindset.

What I also do is make sure I get at least 6 hours sleep a day, so that I feel fairly fresh for the morning periods of school. Also, I try to have as much fun in school as possible (minimal time in the library) by playing cricket or basketball, so that when I got home, I would feel less likely to get distracted.

+No facebook!  (advice from a friends who got 99.95 last year -five raw 50s). This is also confirmed by this poll I created: http://vcenotes.com/forum/index.php/topic,31960.0.html

yea i prefer application q.s too :)
im still going to get a head start on biol though. like at least be half a topic ahead in front of everyone else just so i get the gist of things wen the teacher is explaining stuff

The start of Unit 3 is just a tiny step up from Unit 1, so if you go over those notes on cells (and parts), proteins, DNA, sugars, etc., the first few weeks should be a breeze. Nice to see you'll be having a teacher who can explain stuff (mine failed miserably and taught off other teacher's powerpoints!).

Good luck then!  :)
