Russ makes a fair point :P
But really, I'm probably not as well informed as i should be, but I have just heard that studying biomed->med at melb is a better way to study medicine as you have more medical knowledge anda higher likelihood to go on to specialise than doing med at monash. that could be complete crap, I dont know.

Sorry didn't see this. While I'm not 100% on the technicalities of specialising, I'm sure getting into your medicine career earlier is ultimately the better advantage than a biomed degree. Going through biomed, you're getting into the field about 3 years later than you would have if you just went into Monash. That's 3 years of experience that you're missing out on. I'm pretty sure 3 years of experience is better than apparently having 'more medical knowledge' which is quite a contentious claim to begin with, given that you'll be learning stuff which is actually useful within those 3 years. You'll soon realise that what you learn in uni for Medicine is largely quite useless; it's the stuff you learn in hospital by experience which is useful. The only thing useful from what I'm aware of that you might get from a biomed degree is any research experience as I have heard research is something which is quite beneficial to have under your sleeve when applying, but this research experience can also be gained during the undergrad medicine course through Summer research scholarships or the optional BMedSci degree anyway.

Nah, you lose the last three years of your career, not the first three. You still get that experience, just three years later. :P

Best just to go where you'll have the most fun and to the uni that appeals to you the most. There's plenty of time to make yourself top dog in the professional world once you start your career.

I'm speaking in terms of a comparable age; not in terms of time actually spent doing Medicine. Should've been more clear there.

I'm just wondering do any of you have stats on like, how many students from biomed will actually get into postgrad med/dent/optom while the other 300+ are left alone?

I think Russ posted this somewhere, can't remember exactly, (also, the course is new, so this is only based only on one years data) but apparently ~40% of people in the MD came from UoM Biomed.

I think :P

^ i would advise against the FFP, since you graduate as a full-fee student and so will struggle to get an internship (possibly) unless the 'medicine tsunami' problem doesnt resolve itself in the next few years. Try and get CSP, do not settle for FFP!!

lol, yeah, the 0.04 of an aggregate point off the CSP guarantee has me disappointed.
